Microsoft Unveils Live Search Maps For IndiaTo join the league of search giants Google and Yahoo, Software giant Microsoft India has rolled out its map services, named Live Search Maps for India.

The latest offering by Microsoft consists of detailed listings and street maps for nine (9) cities, business listings across 29 cities and access to highway networks to 20,000 cities and towns.

Mr. Rishi Srivastava, Microsoft India Consumer and Online Marketing Operations Head, said, “Live Search Maps for India will allow users to search for geographical information, places of general interest and business listings both on the PC and mobile phones.”

The maps give detailed information about street maps, addresses, roads, localities, landmarks and places of general interest such as monuments, restaurants, hotels across nine Indian cities, which include Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur.

While talking about the revenue model, Srivastava added, “The service is free for consumers. We will generate revenues through advertisements but that will be later. Currently, we are focusing on generating unique consumer experience to have people using the service.”

Moreover, Microsoft has also decided to expand this coverage to 30 cities in the coming time, and add features such as landmark based driving directions, collections search, options for enterprise customers and developer community together with satellite imagery.
