As per state health authorities, second case of measles in Massachusetts this year has been reported. On Monday, public health officials said that an unvaccinated child visited Martha's Vineyard was diagnosed with measles last week.

From June 8 to Wednesday, the child visited places in West Tisbury and Oak Bluffs. There are chances that the child who visited public venues there might have exposed others to the virus. Marina Lent, of the Chilmark Board of Health, stated that the child has been kept under isolation in order to prevent any further exposure.

Martha's Vineyard Hospital officials said that the child's checkup was carried out in the hospital and was diagnosed with measles there only. It was important to isolate the child as measles can remain in the air for a longer period of time even after an infected person has departed.

Dr. Monica Bharel, the state's public health commissioner, said that though two cases have been reported in the state, there are very rare chances of an outbreak in Massachusetts owing to the high rates of immunization among students.

Martha's Vineyard Hospital stated that they have organized a measles immunization clinic from 5 to 9pm in Wednesday in the doctor's wing of the old hospital. No one will be charged for appearing in the clinic.

Early symptoms of the virus can take place in 10 day to two weeks. Its symptoms can include high fever, cough and runny nose. Rashes will start appearing on the skin two to four after the initial symptoms. If you have seen symptoms then you must contact the state Department of Public Health.
