Maruti's Manesar assembly unit to be ready by October next year

Maruti-Suzuki-Manesar-PlantAccording to major announcement made by the leading player in the Indian automobile pack, Maruti Suzuki India plans to start producing vehicles at its upcoming plant at Manesar from October 2011.

Facing a situation where it can almost every unit of what it can produce, Maruti Suzuki is speeding up its plans to expand its capacity in the Indian market. It is believed that the new facility will cost close to Rs 1,700 crore and will result in producing an additional 2.5 lakh more cars for the company.

Once the Manesar unit gets operational, it will take Maruti's annual production capacity to around 15 lakh cars by 2014. It is to be mentioned here that while the company reached full capacity of 10-lakh vehicles a year in March and is currently aiming to maximize from the installed capacity by producing around 12 lakh vehicles during this fiscal by re-engineering its production lines.

Maruti's MD and CEO, Shinzo Nakanishi, said that the company is facing an unprecedented demand in the Indian market currently. It may be noted here that the new capacity will also allow the company to brace for the competition in the market.
