Maruti Suzuki sales down .40 percent in February

Maruti-SuzukiNew Delhi, March 1 : India's largest passenger car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki Saturday reported a .40 percent decline in total sales including exports for February, which stood at 109,104 units due to a fall in exports.

The company had sold 109,567 units in February 2013.

There was a sharp drop in the company's exports. Maruti Suzuki exported just 9,346 units last month, which was 19.50 percent less than 11,612 units sold overseas during the corresponding month of 2013.

However, the company's domestic sale increased by 1.80 percent to 99,758 units during the month under review as compared to 97,955 units sold in February 2013.

Sales in passenger cars segment, which comprises of brands like M800, Alto, A-Star, WagonR, Swift, Estilo, Ritz, Dzire, SX4 and Kizashi, inched higher by 0.90 percent at 84,595 units from an off-take of 83,865 in the corresponding month of
2013.

The off-take of utility vehicles like Gypsy, Grand, Vitara and Ertiga slumped by 12.20 percent at 5,231 units from sales of 5,957 units in February 2013.

However, sales in van segment that includes brands like Omni and Eeco, gained 22.10 percent at 9,932 units from an off-take of 8,133 units in the corresponding month of 2013. (IANS)
