Manmohan Government is ‘not’ soft on terror: Sonia

Manmohan SinghDadri, Sep 30 : Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday said that the Manmohan Singh Government is ‘not’ soft on terror, and assured that the Centre is fully competent to deal with issues related to terrorism.

The Congress President, however, admitted that tougher legislations were needed to combat and root-out terrorism from the country.

Defending the ruling alliance, she assured that the UPA Government is taking elaborate measures to curb terrorism.

While addressing a farmer’s rally in Dadri, Noida she also congratulated Prime Minister for successful handling of the crucial nuclear deal negotiations with the Bush Administration.

Apparently referring to the approval given by the US House of Representative, the UPA chairperson said that the Indo-US nuke deal will end the energy crisis in the country.

“The Congress-led UPA government at the Centre is committed to the all-round development of the nation, “she stated.

Meanwhile, Congress president also attempted to settle accounts with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) by addressing the issues related to “atrocities on farmers” by the Mayawati government in UP.

Sonia stressed that the farm loan waiver announced by the Centre was not being implemented properly in the UP.

The rally was organised by the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee to protest the acquisition of farmers land by the Mayawati government.

Besides Sonia Gandhi, the rally was also addressed by young Congress leader Jatin Prasada and UP Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi. (ANI)
