Antananarivo - The army in Madagascar announced that the capital Antananarivo would be placed under curfew on Tuesday night following 48 hours of violent anti-government protests that have reportedly claimed at least 19 lives.

Residents of Antananarivo have been ordered to remain indoors between 9 pm and 4 am local time. (dpa)
