Lower than anticipated opening for 'Shrek Forever After'
According to the market reports, animated fantasy film, Shrek Forever After, which released on 21st of this month in the United States, Canada, and India and on May 20 in Russia, seems to not have been able to impress audiences like the predecessor Shrek the Third.
It has been reported that the opening day collection of the latest Shrek film was an estimated USD 20,750,000, which is remarkably less that Shrek the Third, which opened with USD 121 million back in 2007.
The report also noted that Shrek Forever After has got the widest release for an animated film by playing in 4,359 theaters but its collection are lower than Shrek 2, which opened with USD 108 million in 2004. The impact of Shrek Forever After can be seen on DreamWorks Animation, whose stock prices closed down by nearly 15 percent.
Shrek Forever After has received mixed reviews from the critics and is expected to earn more in the coming weeks.
It was also reported that the release of highly anticipated 'Sex and the City 2' as well as Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, this week have eaten up half the viewer of earlier release of this month like Iron Man 2 and Robin Hood.
Making it the sixth biggest-grossing, opening of sequel Sex and the City 2 opened to USD 14.2 million on Thursday, though significantly lower grossing than Sex and the City's USD 26.8 million Friday opening two years ago. (With Inputs from Agencies)
