Chinese electronics gaint, Lenovo has said that it has appointed Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor as the brand ambassador for its new range of smartphones in the Indian market.

The actor will endorse the company's new smartphones and will he will now feature in various television and online commercials of the company in the country. The actor endorced the company's tablet computers and PCs.

"Ranbir Kapoor is a multi-talented and popular actor, who is admired across the nation. We are delighted to be associated with him, as he is an extremely versatile, endearing and stylish performer just like our range of Lenovo smartphones," said Lenovo India director for smartphones, Sudhin Mathur.

The launch of smartphones will allow the company to expand its presence into the consumer market and attract more customers to its smartphones in the country. Lenovo is currently the fifth largest manufacturer of smartphones after Samsung, Apple, Huawei and LG Electronics. The company had a market share of 4.5 per cent in global smartphone market in 2013.

Gartner said that India recorded a growth of  166.8 per cent increase in smartphone sales during the fourth quarter of 2013. The growth will allow the company to increase its sales in the market.
