Legal documents for abusive mom delayed
Officials have revealed that arraignment has been postponed for a woman and her boyfriend accused of starving, beating and tying up her two sons in Orange County, Calif.
The Los Angeles Times reported on Monday that Cheryl Ann Stuart, 25, and Mario Alberto Colin, 31, are being held at the Santa Ana jail in lieu of $250,000 bail until their July 23 arraignment.
It was also reported that Stuart was arrested on Wednesday night after her landlord called police saying Stuart's two sons, 2 and 5, had not been seen for days.
According to the newspaper, when Santa Ana police entered the room Stuart was renting in a home on the 1400 block of North Parsons Place, they found the children with bruises across their bodies, swollen limbs and bumps on their heads.
The (Torrance, Calif.) Daily Breeze also reported that Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said the children had bloody, cracked lips and were so dehydrated their ribs were showing.
Stuart withheld food and tethered the 2-year-old to a crib with shoelaces, chain and gauze because she was potty-training him and grew tired of cleaning up after him, and so "she could sleep well," said Bertagna.
Bertagna further added, "She admitted that she had been striking the children, but she didn't think she was hitting them that hard." (With Inputs from Agencies)
