At least 37 dead in suicide attack, air raids in Iraq

Baghdad - At least 37 people were killed Friday and 52 wounded, after a suicide attack in Baquba and separate US air raids in the same city some 60 kilometres north of Baghdad, police sources said.

A suicide bomber killed 17 people including himself, in the funeral procession of an Iraqi policeman, who had been shot dead on Thursday, in the Saediya area in southern Baquba, police said.

In total, 29 people were seriously injured in the attack and the death toll is expected to rise, according to the police.

In Baquba's Moqdadiya area, US helicopters struck a location of suspected militants in the early hours of Friday, police sources told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.

The air raids killed 20 suspected militants and injured another 23, according to police. (dpa)
