Los Angeles  - All of a sudden, the Los Angeles Lakers are slumping.

The Lakers wasted a season-high 41 points from Kobe Bryant and dropped consecutive games for the first time this season with Saturday's 106-103 loss to the host Orlando Magic.

Jameer Nelson scored 27 points and Rashard Lewis added 22 for the Magic, who won their fourth straight game as they survived Dwight Howard's foul trouble and a last-second shot by Bryant, who missed at the buzzer for the second straight night.

"Those things are going to happen when you're on the road," maintained Lakers coach Phil Jackson, whose team is halfway through a four-game road trip. "Those shots are more friendly at home perhaps. They'll go in. But we had our shots, we took them and they just didn't go in tonight."

After racing to a 20-3 start, the Lakers clearly have struggled the last three games. They needed a furious second-half rally to steal a 116-114 home win from New York on Tuesday, then were held to a season low in Friday's 89-87 loss at Miami as Bryant's jumper at the horn rattled out.

Bryant appeared intent on shaking that off, scoring 25 points in the first half as the Lakers took advantage of the prolonged absence of Howard to grab a 58-49 lead.

But with Howard back on the floor to start the third quarter, the Magic got their inside-outside game going as they drained six three-pointers. Three came from Nelson, who had 15 points in the period to offset 12 from Bryant and help Orlando take an 85-84 lead entering the final 12 minutes.

"I let the game come to me, and it's been coming to me in the second half and in the third quarter," said Nelson, who made 11-of-16 shots.

The Lakers never led in the fourth quarter, although they did tie it four times, the last at 101-101 with 1:23 to play on a three-pointer by Derek Fisher, who scored a season-high 27 points.

At the other end, Howard rebounded a miss by teammate Keith Bogans and was fouled. He sank both free throws, and Lewis added another for a 104-101 edge with 45 seconds left.

After two free throws by Bryant, the Lakers forced a turnover by Nelson. Bryant drove and whipped a pass to Slovenia's Sasha Vujacic, but his three-pointer was snared by Howard, who was fouled with 3.5 seconds to go.

Howard again sank both free throws, and after a timeout, Bryant launched a 30-footer that bounded off the rim as the horn sounded.

Despite his foul trouble, Howard scored 12 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter and added 12 rebounds, three steals and two blocks as he thoroughly outplayed young Lakers center Andrew Bynum. Meanwhile, Bryant scored just four points in the final period.

"(Howard) was fabulous in the second half and that's not an easy thing to do," Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. "I was really proud of him."

"I had a couple of good looks but they just didn't go down for me," said Bryant, who shot 14-of-31. "When I get it going they just send everybody (at me). I am used to that."

Turkey's Hedo Turkoglu had 14 points and seven assists for the Magic, who shot 49 percent (35-of-72) and made 12 three-pointers.

Spain's Pau Gasol had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Lakers, who shot just 41 percent (36-of-87).

"I don't think they're going to be down about this game," Jackson said. "They know they had a shot at winning it if things were done right." (dpa)
