KSIDC To Set Up Life Science Park
Yes, you heard it right!
State-run Kerala State Industrial Development Corp (KSIDC) is ready to set up a Life Science Park with high-tech facilities near Thiruvananthapuram.
According to KSIDC release, the project would come up under public-private partnership model.
The Rs 3 billion (Rs 300 crore) park will be spread over 260 acres at Thonnakkal, which is about 25 km from Thiruvananthapuram district.
The release said, “It will be a geographic cluster of industries in the field of biotechnology or nanotechnology, research institutions and sci-tech academia.”
KSIDC also said that is eyeing to establish a separate company, Trivandrum Life Sciences Park Co, for the development of the park.
The statement from the company also said that the park will consist of an incubation centre, a technology development centre, biotechnology companies, drug discovery companies, pure play firms and contract research outsourcing units with a focus on health.
The park, which would help in discovering new growth opportunities for subsisting and planned R&D institutions as well as industry players, will also feature dry and wet labs, technology transfer cell, computational biology labs, IT centre, digital imaging centre, central instrumentation centre, bio-It software and database library and intellectual property cell.
It will also be capable of addressing IT-related needs of the rapidly-emerging life sciences industry,
Besides attracting investments in the related fields, the park would deal with the IT related needs of the fastly growing life sciences industry.
