Khurshid to visit Nepal Monday

Salman-KhurshidKathmandu, July 5 : Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid will reach Nepal Monday on a two-day visit to extend support and solidarity to Nepal's elections process, it was announced here.

Khurshid, whose visit comes on invitation of his Nepali counterpart Madhav Ghimire, will meet President Ram Baran Yadav, chairman of Interim Elections Council Khil Raj Regmi, Ghimire, and top leaders of major political parties, said Nepal's foreign ministry spokesman Arjun Bahadur Thapa.

He will be accompanied by senior officials, he said.

"The visit shows that there is strong international support, particularly from our neighbours towards Nepal's election process. Some possible support from the Indian side will be discussed during the visit," said Thapa.

A statement by the Indian embassy here said that this will be Khurshid's first visit to Nepal as external affairs minister, and the first after his predecessor S. M. Krishna's April 2011 trip.

"The two ministers will exchange views on the further development of bilateral relations and other issues of mutual interest," it added. (IANS)
