Iran's Guards warn opposition against illegal rallies

Iran's Guards warn opposition against illegal rallies Tehran - Iran's Revolutionary Guards on Monday warned political opponents against misusing the annual November 4 anti-US rallies to hold illegal protests against the government.

In a statement carried by the official news agency IRNA, the pro-government elite forces warned opposition supporters not to hurt the Wednesday's revolutionary rallies for their political aims.

It said they "will not allow any group to use false slogans to divert the rallies" to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the seizure of the US embassy in Tehran.

Supporters of moderate opposition leaders Mir-Hossein Moussavi and Mehdi Karroubi, who say the June 12 electoral victory of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was rigged, have announced that they planned to hold rallies on the same day.

In September, the anti-Ahmadinejad protestors clashed with government backers and security forces in Tehran during the annual anti-Israeli rallies supporting the Palestinian people.

The Revolutionary Guards that helped to quell the post-vote street protests, called on the Iranian nation to "exercise vigilance against the possible plots by the enemy's agents and some misguided people on November 4", IRNA reported. (dpa)
