Iran says its nuclear programmes no security threat

Iran says its nuclear programmes no security threat Geneva  - Iran told the six world powers Thursday in Geneva that its nuclear programmes posed no security threat to the Middle East and Persian Gulf region, the news network Khabar reported.

Khabar quoted Iranian chief nuclear negotiator Saeid Jalili as telling the five permanent security council members - and apparently also US State Department's top diplomats William Burns - that the main threat of the region were the atomic arsenals in the region, especially those of Israel.

Jalili was further quoted as saying that instead of removing the dangerous atomic arsenals, the world powers opposed Iran's legitimate right to pursue peaceful nuclear programmes which posed no security threat at all.

Whole voicing support for nuclear disarmament in both the region and the whole world, Jalili added that Tehran was prepared to cooperate with the world in this regard.  dpa
