Iran denies making nuclear warheads

Iran denies making nuclear warheadsTehran - Iran on Sunday categorically denied Western media reports that the country was making nuclear warheads, official news agency IRNA reported.

"Reports of Iran making or using nuclear warheads are totally baseless as we regard nuclear weapons as useless and not in line with our national interests," the air force commander of Iran's revolutionary guards, General Hossein Salami, told IRNA at a military parade in Tehran.

Various reports have claimed that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have presented documents and photos of Iranian efforts to make nuclear warheads for its medium-range Shahab-3 missiles.

The Shahab-3 missiles with a maximum range of 2,000 kilometres have caused international concern, especially in Israel, because they would be able to reach all parts of the Jewish state.

While making constant assurances on the peaceful nature of its nuclear projects, Tehran also insists that its missiles and other weapons are for defensive purposes only. (dpa)
