International deals enabled Benazir’s return to Pak: Zardari

Washington, Feb 9: Asif Ali Zardari and his Late wife Benazir BhuttoThe Pakistan People’s Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has said that his wife Benazir Bhutto had returned to Pakistan as a result of international agreements, but after her assassination, all agreements stand nullified.

Zardari told the Voice of America that he could not reveal the details of the agreements.

He said he was very upset with those who had brokered the agreements, as they were not supporting his appeal for a United Nations investigation into his wife’s murder.

In an answer to a question about Dr A Q Khan, he said the present Government should have given him the opportunity to defend himself.

“It is the people of Pakistan, not his party, that will decide the fate of Dr Khan,” the Daliy Times quoted Zardari, as saying.

Zardari’s statement is a virtual recantation of Benazir’s offer in her two speeches in Washington during her last visit to the US that she would provide the UN nuclear watchdog with access to Dr Khan.

When asked about the new Army Chief, General Asfaq Kiyani Zardari said his initial statements were promising, but only time would tell to what extent he would abide by them.

Zardari did not rule out his chances of becoming Prime Minister of Pakistan, and said the PPP would restore democracy in the country in the name of Benazir. (ANI)
