Intel And Yahoo Join Hands To Launch Widget

In yet another step towards advancing technology, Intel Corp. in co-operation with internet major Yahoo, announced their plans to start a new Widget Channel, which will bring internet to television screens. The announcement was made on Wednesday and it was also informed that this new channel actually is a television application framework created for TV and related consumer electronics devices. In past too, such attempts to unite TV and internet were made, nut no success was availed. However, these two California-based companies want to create a new trend.

Both the companies informed, “This new channel will allow consumers to enjoy rich internet applications designed for the TV while watching their favorite TV programs and will be powered by the Yahoo Widget Engine, a fifth-generation applications platform.”

Presently, Intel is busy working on the hardware for the service to work in a series of digital televisions and set-top boxes.

This new innovative channel will also let the developers use Javascript, XML, HTML and Adobe Flash technology in order to write TV applications for the platform. This will gibe them the ability to extend the power and compatibility of PC application programs to TV and related CE devices.

The users can enjoy a variety of other activities with the new TV Widgets like watching videos, tracking their favorite stocks or sports teams, communicating with friends, or staying updated with current news and information.

So it would be lot easier for the users to enhance their enjoyment of programming, discover new content and services and even share it with their friends and family.

Not only this, TV Widgets, which will be based on Internet services like Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! Sports, Blockbuster and eBay, can be personalized as well, giving users the access to all these as they might be customized for use in their daily lives.

“TV will fundamentally change how we talk about, imagine and experience the Internet. No longer just a passive experience unless the viewer wants it that way, Intel and Yahoo! are proposing a way where the TV and Internet are as interactive, and seamless, as possible,” informed Intel senior VP, GM digital home group Eric Kim.

There is yet more to the new awaited Widget Channel, which will also have a Widget Gallery. It will help the developers to publish their TV Widgets across unlimited TV and related CE devices. The consumers will also be able to view and select the TV Widget they would like to utilize through this process.

It has also been learnt that Intel and Yahoo are busy working with a lot of companies as they all are interested in developing and deploying TV Widgets. The names include Blockbuster, CBS Interactive, Disney-ABC Television Group, eBay and MTV.
