India signs a slew of deals with Russia
India and Russia have signed a number of business and strategic interest pacts with each other.
They were signed during the first day of the visit of Russian PM, Vladimir Putin.
As many as five important agreements were signed between Putin and Indian PM, Manmohan Singh. Many others were signed too.
The most important of the lot was the nuclear pact, which deals about building nuclear reactors and opening the way for many other co-operations to take place. This will be done between NPCIL and Atomstroy Export.
The other important one was the one which deals with the building of more than 1,000 stealth fighter jets by Russia. The work will be done in a period of forty years and 200 such fighter jets will be bought by India. This was told by the head of Sukhoi, Mikhail Pogosyan.
Besides this, Russia will also be helping ONGC is exploration of newer avenues for oil.
Such pacts will help in removing a small hitch that had developed between the two nations. This happened since the bilateral agreements between the two nations had reduced to almost zero over the years.
