Scientists have been telling since long that how climate change can affect us. And now it has been reported that it could have one more adverse consequence. A new study says that rate at which temperatures are rising could increase sea level to an alarming extent.

It has been reported by researchers that the sea level could rise up to 20 feet if global warming is not tackled properly and the 2 degrees rise of greenhouse gases is not controlled.

A data collection of three extremely warm periods was studied by researchers. This data was recorded in the past. It was concluded by researchers after thorough analysis of the data that rise in sea levels was 20 feet in each case.

The melting was caused by an increase of just one or two degrees Celsius in temperatures that were recorded worldwide.

According to Andrea Dutton, who is the lead study author and a geochemist from University of Florida, "As the planet warms, the poles warm even faster, raising important questions about how ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica will respond. While this amount of sea-level rise will not happen overnight, it is sobering".

It has been reported that with increasing temperatures, increased flooding and storm could occur in cities located in the coastal region from New York to Miami and also Bangkok. The space agency, NASA is also worried that its launch pads could submerge in water as a result of climate change.

As per reports, Maldives, which is an archipelago of nearly 1,200 coral islands located south-southwest of India, could be the one to sink in the beginning.
