A mourning demise of M Ragavendra, a third- year B. Tech student in IIT Madras caught attention of the college following which a rally was organised.

It is believed that Ragavendra after celebrating his birthday had a cardiac arrest and he was admitted to the institute's hospital. The institute's hospital ran short in providing the necessary amenities causing the student to strangle till death.

Following the incident, the students took out a procession with a strong protest against the authorities. Students urged the management to work towards betterment of technology.

Had the institute been running on advanced technologies, the students' life could have been saved, said a student who was a part of the rally. The students blamed the hospital for the negligence they showed in emergencies facilities such as ambulance and trained attendant.

However, it is a matter of concern as the number one institute in India is unable to provide facilities to save lives of their own students.
