‘I would allow IAEA to question AQ Khan’: Benazir

Washington, Sep 26 : Former premier Benazir Bhutto has said that if she again becomes Prime Minister of Pakistan, she would allow the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to question disgraced nuclear scientist Dr AQ Khan.

It has to be determined, if Khan was solely responsible for what he had confessed to, or if there were “others” involved, Bhutto said at the Middle East Institute here.

She went on to say that when in power her party would hold a parliamentary debate over the issue.

If the PPP’s dialogue with President Pervez Musharraf breaks down, her party would resign all of its parliamentary seats and would join the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in protests.

Criticising extremist elements of the ruling PML who are not letting Musharraf to reach an agreement with her, Bhutto condemned the US support for the Pakistani President and termed it as a strategic miscalculation.

“The military rule is the cause of the anarchic situation in Pakistan,” the Daily Times quoted her, as saying.

Bhutto said dictators have to keep extremism alive just in order to have power in their hands.

Commenting on the judicial crisis in Pakistan, she said that Musharraf has undermined the judiciary by removing judges and has forced people to radical mosques by dismantling other paths of dissent. (With inputs from ANI)
