British film and TV actor Dev Patel, who shot to fame after playing the role of Jamal Malik in Danny Boyle's megahit film Slumdog Millionaire, has cleared the air for his fans, by declaring that he is not engaged to his longtime girlfriend Freida Pinto.

Dev had to announce the fact as his mother got disappointed after reading news about his engagement to Pinto.

Dev had to clarify to his mom that the reports were false.

The actor said, "I had to say that nothing has happened, everything is fine and I am here just for shooting a movie."

"Sometimes my mom goes to work and is required to answer why it has been reported that Dev is engaged and has a wedding ring and she has to explain that this is not true," he added.

Dev and Pinto started dating each other since the time of the Slumdog Millionaire in the year 2008, when they met on the sets.

On this, the 20 year old actor said, "I get lots of inspiration and support from Frieda. She is amazing as a friend."

Well, if Dev also prefers to say 'just friends' like any other celebrity, then who knows what will be the future of this relation! (With Inputs from Agencies)
