I Believe In Myself, Says Sonam Kapoor

I Believe In Myself, Says Sonam KapoorYear 2007-08 had seen over a dozen debutant(e)s starting a journey into the Hindi film industry. And not shockingly, most of them come from ‘Filmi’ families, and Sonam Kapoor is one of them.

Sonam Kapoor, daughter of ace Bollywood superstar Anil Kapoor, burst upon Bollywood with a critically acclaimed though box office failure “Saawariya”.

Though the film failed to set audience ablaze, but the amount of stardom Sonam gathered was more than enough to get the promotion and make a presence in the directors’ ‘most wanted’ list.

Now, she is again back with a bang in 2009.

Sonam will be seen in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s upcoming film ‘Delhi 6’, which will hit theatres on Feb 20.

As Saawariya didn’t turn out the way it should’ve, Sonam must have had some fears while signing ‘Delhi 6’.

But the actress said she followed her instincts, and signed the film.

She said, “I liked the role, so I took it up. And of course, it wouldn’t be intelligent on my part not to take my papa’s advice.”

The girl, who is only two films old, has worked with two Bollowood biggies including Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.

On this, she said, “They are different.”

While Bhansali’s direction way is like creating a painting using oil colors, Mehra works as if on a watercolour.

She said that she has gained lots of confidence through her work, and it’s presenting in her ultra hot looks on the ramp and on the covers of glossies.

The actress, who’s gone de-glam and is sporting a cultural look in ‘Delhi 6’, said, “I believe in myself.”

“It’s the character that I play,” she said.

“Apart from the clothes by Anamika Khanna and Bharathi Mehra, I also dipped into my mother’s wardrobe and my grandmother’s jewellery collection,” she added.

In Delhi 6, Sonam played the role of a young woman looking for an identity and desiring to separate from from social norms.

When asked about the attacks on women going to pubs, she said, “It’s a stupid way of looking at women. It’s disgusting to see the political games being played. I’m ashamed of the men who spoke adversely about women going to pubs. Indian girls are strong and intelligent and know how to keep their families happy. Women are not inferior to men in anyway,”

When media persons asked a question on her rivalry with Deepika Padukone, she said, “The thing with competition is that you start concentrating too much on someone else’s career. Competition is unhealthy and one should consider only oneself as the benchmark. You can’t expect two actresses to be the same. Everyone is different. Besides, Deepika and I have made our separate niches in the industry. Our work is not the same.”

Sonam, who has also been signed by L’Oreal as its young ambassador, will also be seen in a hot look on the cover page of India’s premier women’s international magazine ‘Verve’.
