I&B Ministry Issues Notice To TV channels

The information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry has been keeping constant check on the programmes telecasted on various channels. Sometimes, TV channels telecast unethical things for TRP sake. Various media channels from time to time have received notices from government for showing obscene problems.

Presently, the ministry has sent show cause notices to three television channels for violating the programme code. These channels are music channel MTV, news channel IBN-7 and Headlines Today.

MTV has been issued notice after government authorities received a complaint regarding "denigration" of women in its hugely popular reality show 'Splitsvilla'. The programme has two boys who have to choose from 20 teenaged girls. These girls are made to perform various activities to win favor from boys. The winners of the programme will get a chance to host a programme on MTV along with cash prize. The main target of this programme is youth. A complaint has been registered against an episode telecast on July 12. The complaint said that the episode was in bad taste and denigrated women by objectifying the girls.

IBN-7 has also received notice regarding a programme aired on June 27. The program has shown that Hindu deities, Lord Ram and Hanuman appeared in the form of a ball of fire in a village called Nero, 200 km from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

Headlines Today had received a notice for programme on aired July 6 on the bikini completing 62 years. According to authorities, program was found "objectionable and indecent". Authorities had received a complaint stating that the featured pictures of models in bikinis and photographs of topless women were shown in that program.
