Hundreds churn out to see tennis great Agassi in Auckland

Andre-AgassWellington, Jan 24 : There was a big audience for tennis great Andre Agassi when hundreds of fans showed up to meet him in Auckland on Thursday.

The Grand Slam winner was at Paper Plus Newmarket this morning, signing copies of his autobiography, Open, Stuff. co. nz reports, The queue stretched onto the street and around the corner, with one man waiting more than 12 hours to meet his hero, the paper added.

Ben Buist was the first in the queue, having travelled from Taranaki to meet Agassi, as he had slept outside the store to be first in line, arriving at 9pm last night, it further reported.

Paper Plus'' Lyle Hastings said the tennis star''s timing was perfect after Auckland''s busy summer of tennis, the paper said.

Agassi''s book topped the New York Times Best Seller list on its release in 2010. Agassi turned pro at 16 and was the first men''s singles player to win all four Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal. Over his 20 year career he won 869 matches and earned 60 singles titles. (ANI)
