Hostess to reopen bakeries in Indiana and Illinois
The new owners of Hostess have indicated that the company will soon reopen bakeries in Indiana and Illinois enabling the return of Twinkies and Ho Hos to the market shelves.
The company had earlier said that it will open bakeries in Georgia and Kansas as part of its efforts to re-launch some of the popular brands of products from the company. The previous owners of the company had filed for bankruptcy protection in 2012 after years of turmoil. The management had decided to halt business following a nationwide strike by workers.
The products disappeared from the market as Hostess moved to liquidate and sell off its assets in bankruptcy court due to a strike by workers. Private equity groups Apollo Global Management and Metropolis had paid $410 million to buy the Hostess and Dolly Madison snack cake lines and five plants under the liquidation process.
The company is now working to revive operations and bring back Twinkies, Ho Hos and other popular snack cakes to the markets by June this year. It will begin work at bakeries in Indianapolis and Schiller Park and it is already accepting applications at some sites and will start hiring people next month. Some of the locations will start work during the coming month.
