High alert in Kashmir ahead of general electionsSrinagar/New Delhi, Mar 28 : In the wake of upcoming elections to the Lok Sabha and recent instances of infiltration bids by the anti-national forces, a high alert has been sounded in Jammu and Kashmir.

Paramilitary forces have started intense patrolling and taken up adequate security measures through deployment of armed personnel to prevent any militant attacks in Srinagar.

A five-day gun battle in Kashmir between militants and the Indian army has raised security concerns before the elections.

"The militants might try to disturb the upcoming elections," saidP K Tripathi, Public Relations Officer, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Meanwhile in New Delhi, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma said that India wants stability and peace in neighbourhood countries including Pakistan.

"We don''t want violence in our neighbourhood countries. We want that i stability, peace, democracy continues and terrorist outfits, which are a big challenge, is brought to an end for the peace of the entire world," he added. (ANI)
