Harley-Davidson’s electric-only sub-brand LiveWire aims to sell 100K bikes by 2026

Sharing its future sales goals, American motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson has announced that it has set a target for its LiveWire sub-brand to sell 100,000 electric bikes by the end of 2026.

LiveWire was launched by Harley-Davidson as its electric-only sub-brand, to cater to different groups of enthusiasts. It is expected to give a much-needed boost to Harley-Davidson’s electrification goals. In fact, LiveWire was the company’s first fully electric motorcycle that was launched in 2018. Despite selling in reasonable numbers, it was weird for Harley-Davidson’s fans, thanks to its absence of the iconic rumbling sound.

That electric motorcycle was widely praised by riders as well as industry experts, thanks to its great quality and high-tech specs. Even fans of the company’s conventional gas-powered motorcycles praised the LiveWire as a thrilling and well-made motorcycle. However, its price tag of nearly $30,000 was not welcomed by all. Even much of the old guard from conventional gas-powered motorcycle media begrudgingly praised the Harley-Davidson LiveWire as a thrilling and well-made motorcycle.

Now, the sub-brand aspires to sell as many as 100,000 electric bikes by 2026, and increase that growth rate further to 190,000 units by the end of 2030.

The aforementioned sales targets sound somewhat lofty, particularly when we consider that Harley-Davidson sold just 1,300 to 1,600 electric motorcycles between 2019 and the first 9 months of 2021.

Nevertheless, if the electric sub-brand of the world-renowned motorcycle manufacturer succeeds in hitting those figures, the company will unquestionably garner huge estimated electric motorcycle revenues of around $1.77 billion by 2026 and $3 billion by 2030.

In its newly published prospectus, the company states, “We expect global electric vehicle penetration to expand from 6% of units in 2021 to 25% by 2030, implying electric motorcycle market growth from $2.5 billion in sales to approximately $20 billion to $28 billion over the same period.”

In the second quarter (Q2) of this year, the LiveWire sub-brand will launch a new fully-electric motorcycle, codenamed 'S2', which will reportedly finally be called Del Mar. It will come equipped with a structural battery pack consisted of 21,700 cylindrical Li-ion battery cells, and debut the brand’s new ARROW platform, which will underpin a number of the company’s future products as well. Being positioned below the LiveWire model, it will be a pocket-friendly offering.
