Greek Olympic weightlifting coach suspended over doping

Athens - Greece's Olympic weightlifting coach Christos Iacovou was suspended on Friday after WADA found 11 Greek weightlifters to have tested positive for using banned substances.

According to reports, 11 out of 14 weightlifters of the Greek national team, whose names were not released pending confirmation of the March 7 tests, all tested positive.

The results put the Greek national team at risk of not participating at the European Championships in Italy in a few days and the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Iacovou, 60, is one of Greece's most respected coaches, whose team has won five Olympic gold medals along with five silver and two bronze since the 1992 games in Barcelona. (dpa)
