Gowda asks Defence Ministrer not to shift Aero-show out of Bangalore
D. V. Sadananda Gowda, the Chief Minister for the state of Karnataka has written to the union Defence Minister A. K. Antony and asked not to move the biennial AeroIndia out of Bangalore.
He said that the authorities in Karnataka are passionately committed to the show. He pointed out that the city has been hosting the event since its inception in 1994 and that Bangalroe has a godo atmosphere for the event as well as being the hub of the aerospace industry in Asia.
"I am told that this (shifting of venue) has come up because of Bangalore International Airport Ltd. taking up the issue of airspace management and the Civil Aviation Ministry approaching the Defense Ministry with a request to move the venue where there is greater free air space," wrote Mr. Gowda in the letter that was released to the media.
The Air India has provided its support to the event that has grown in size and importance. Mr. Gowda said that BAIL had closed its runway in April 2012 for almost 30 days from 10.30 a. m. to 5 p. m. for maintenance and repair. Thus, it should nto be difficult for BIAL to close the runway for just five days for the event in case there is difficulty in managing the available airspace.
Members of the aerospace industry and aviation enthusiasts are also against moving the event out of the city that can come to symbolize the show that sees participation from most prominent players in the industry from around the world.
