Government to extend help to industry
Government will address all genuine concerns of industry while framing new Foreign Trade Policy (FTP). Union Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma, in a meeting organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry and the Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO), said that measured will be taken for diversification of export sector providing it special incentives to beat the adverse impact of global slowdown.
Mr. Sharma said, "We will look at diversification so that other continents which have not been traditional destinations of Indian exports are also covered. This will help in boosting our exports." He hoped that the country will soon witness surge in export sector as demand in traditional markets has picked up.
The minister sought Industry's feedback to decrease procedural implications and to execute speedy reforms across the trade sector for employment generation and to achieve adequate growth rate.
Mr. Sharma, indicating stimulus package for the export industry, said, "We are consulting the stakeholders and whatever best can be done to respond to the global economic crisis to make Indian exports globally competitive."
