Google might develop its own server chips

Google might develop its own server chipsInternet giant, Google might be planning to design and develop its own server chips in an attempt to increase the compatibility between its hardware and software in various devices.

Google has said that it will reportedly use technology from ARM Holdings Plc to develop its own chips. The move will be a major setback for Intel, which supplies chips to Google. Google is the fifth largest customer for Intel but if Google starts producing its own server chips, it will impact Intel's revenues.

Experts have said that Google already designs its own data centers complete with servers around the globe and it make sense for the company to start developing its own server chips. Google might mostly likely team up with ARM, which rules the smartphones and tablets market for chips. Google recently joined a group started by IBM that licenses technology used in data centers including for chips for servers.

Google also recently posted a job opening for a digital design engineer as the company is looking for a person with qualifications in application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs). Google has not confirmed tis plans to develop server chips on its own yet.
