Google brings YouTube Android app pairing, updated UI to ‘Smart TVs’

Google brings YouTube Android app pairing, updated UI to ‘Smart TVs’After having released an update for its YouTube app for Android in November, to facilitate pairing with TVs equipped with Google TV, Internet search biggie Google has now announced support for the same function on new `Smart TVs' manufactured by LG, Panasonic, Sony, and Bang & Olufsen.

With Google extending its YouTube Android app pairing to Smart TV s from the mentioned brands, the owners of those TVs will be able to use the "send to TV" feature which will virtually turn the YouTube Android smartphone and tablet app into a kind of remote control for the big screen.

To put it differently, the "send to TV" feature will enable the Smart TV users to gain instant access to videos and channels from the YouTube Android mobile app straight on their TV.

According to a confirmation by Google via a blog post, the new Smart TVs will be debuted by LG, Panasonic, Sony, and Bang & Olufsen at the forthcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013 event. In addition, Google also revealed that, during the course of 2013, additional sets and set-top boxes will become available from manufacturers like Samsung, Sharp, Philips, Vizio, Toshiba, and Western Digital.

Meanwhile, other than the "send to TV" feature for Smart TVs, Google also announced that its new user interface (UI) for YouTube on TV will also come aboard the new Smart TVs; thereby offering full 1080p videos and a rather unobtrusive interface.
