Google acquires social mapping app, Waze

Google acquires social mapping app, WazeInternet giant, Google has acquired a social mapping and navigation platform and app called, Waze and is likely to offer its services to its millions of Android customers around the world.

Social networking giant, Facebook had earlier indicated that it is looking to acquire the Israel-based GPS mobile navigation app in a deal valued at US$ 1 billion. Waze has more than 40 million users and its integration with Google platform will allow the company to increase its usage among the users. The company might be able to add a new source of income for the company looking to create avenues of generating revenues.

Waze is described by the company as an app that brings together "the world's largest community of drivers who work together to fight traffic, and save time and gas money on their daily commute." The app offers real-time updates including accidents, road debris, potholes, construction, and other events allowing smooth travel on roads.

Some believe that Google might integrate the service into Google Now allowing drivers to get real time updates on the traffic situation and navigation. The company can also add features ont eh app to the Android's driving mode for the customers.
