GM and Reva sign deal for developing electric vehicles
Leading luxury vehicle makers General Motors and Reva have signed a deal for developing electric vehicles in India. The US-based car maker GM has also announced its decision to develop India as a global hub for pollution-free and environment-friendly vehicles.
MD Karl Slym, President General Motors India, said: "We are pleased to join hands with Reva to bring affordable small car platform-based electric vehicles to the market in line with government objectives to reduce fossil fuel dependence."
He sought co-operation from Indian authorities for developing better infrastructure and providing easy finance facilities to the customers to adopt environment-friendly technology in the public transport system.
Hailing the agreement between the two companies, Deputy Chairman and Chief Technology Officer, Reva Electric Car Company, Chetan Maini said: "Each of the partners will use their strengths, with the aim of making India a global hub for the development and manufacturing of electric vehicles and related technologies."
Both companies may soon announce their detailed plans to develop platforms for EV technology and control systems for turning India into a global hub for the automotive industry.
