Genes responsible for premature birth

Premature-BirthPremature birth risk is now labeled as a genetic disorder, according to a group of researchers.

The University of Aberdeen study has published a report on Obstetrics & Gynecology journal, that claimed that early births tend to run in families and has nothing to do with environmental factors.

This study involved a study of maternity records of 22,343 Scottish mothers and their daughters.

After going through the reports boffins found those women born prematurely or who have brothers or sisters who were born too early are 50-60 percent more likely to have a premature baby themselves, stated a report from The BBC.

According to the lead author of the study Dr Sohinee Bhattacharya who claimed that this research supports a genetic predisposition that is linked to preterm birth and also further work is being done to establish and identify the candidate's genes for the condition.
