Reliance Communications launches ‘free netbook’ scheme

Reliance Communications, the nation’s largest integrated telecom service provider has come up with a lucrative option to woo its customers. The company tends to offer free notebooks together with the internet facility as it has entered into partnership with the five main computer hardware companies Intel Corp, Acer, Asus, HCL Infosystems and Lenovo.

As per the company, the scheme offers laptops which entail Intel’s ‘Atom’ and a high speed internet data card service of Reliance. The Acer Aspire Notebook will carry a 24 months free unlimited data download as an offer on purchase of Reliance data card enabled net connections across India. The prospective buyers would have to pay a monthly instalment of Rs. 1,500 for a two year duration period.

India to have a manned lunar mission by 2015

It was the very first attempt from Indian side to commence a lunar mission, and with the successful launch of Chandrayan I, the nation aims for more. It has been revealed that the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) will now work to have a manned lunar mission that can take place by 2015. With the unmanned spacecraft launched, India now becomes one of the six nations to send its spaceship to the moon’s orbit. The other five are U.S., former Soviet Union, European Space Agency, China and Japan.

Sharma stars for India Red

Cuttack: A brilliant century by Rohit Sharma helped India Red to score a much needed five-wicket victory over India Green in the NKP Salve Challengers Series match.

Though wickets kept on falling at the other end, Rohit Sharma kept his head cool. The Mumbai batsman scored 117 runs off just 120 balls (13 fours and 2 sixes). Opening batsman M Vijay also did well notching up 59-ball 45.

Earlier, batting first, India Green set a daunting target of 261 with Naman Ojha's scoring a well made 96 runs. Ojha and Dhawan (45) added 102 runs for the for the opening wicket and then Ojha and Suresh Raina (58) took India Green to a strong position. But the team lost its momentum in the last overs by losing seven wickets just for 63 runs.

Rupee at a record low against US dollar

Mumbai: Indian rupee recorded the historic low 50-mark against the US dollar as the greenback gained against most currencies globally.

The domestic currency closed the day (Friday) a little lower at 49.95/96 after suspected intervention by the RBI in the inter-bank foreign exchange (forex) market.

Earlier, on October 10, the domestic currency touched its all-time low of 49.26 against the US dollar. The rupee is among the biggest losers against the dollar so far this year, peeling around 20 per cent.

Gilchrist called me to clarify the whole issue: Tendulkar

After Adam Gilchrist's remarks over Sachin Tendulkar's honesty on the famous ''Monkeygate'' issue provoked angry reactions from Indian cricketing fraternity, the Indian batting maestro said the Australian called him up to clarify the whole issue and added that the matter was blown out of proportion.

Speaking with Times Now, Tendulkar said, “Gilchrist called me up and clarified the whole matter.”

“He said his comments have been taken out of context,” added Tendulkar. However, the master-blaster batsman refused to comment any further on the issue.

Maruti hikes prices of its selected models

New Delhi: It’s certainly not a good news for those who wanted to purchase Maruti this Diwali. India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki has announced an increase in prices of its selected models by upto Rs 6,000 just ahead of Diwali. The price hike on select models would range between Rs 2,000 and Rs 6,000.

In a press release, the company said, “'The company has announced a marginal price hike of between 0.7 per cent to 1.1 per cent (between Rs 2000 to Rs 60000) in the ex-showroom prices of its cars.”

The price of the entry model ‘800cc’car have been hiked by Rs 2,000, while ‘Alto’ will cost Rs 2,500 more.
