Orissa Crime Branch nailed four more for killing VHP leader

Orissa Crime Branch arrested four more persons on Sunday in connection with the killing of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati and four of his aides at his ashram at Jaleshpata on Aug 23.

"Four persons were arrested on Sunday. Some more persons were also detained for questioning" state Inspector General of Police (Crime Branch) Arun Kumar Ray said.

The arrests came just a day before the VHP's ultimatum to the Orissa Govt. to arrest the killers of Swamiji.

The saffron organization has threatened to shut down the state if the culprits were not arrested before 15 December 2008.

Police arrested those four including a hard core Naxalites from the Kotagada area of the tribal dominated district Kandhamal.

Ongoing Global Enforcement Effort Aims Child Pornographers

Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey, speaking after a joint United States and European Union (EU) ministerial meeting on yesterday, highlighted ‘Operation Joint Hammer’ - the US component of an ongoing global enforcement operation targeting transnational rings of child pornographers.

The operation already has led to the arrest of over 60 people in US involved in the trade of child pornography; a number that the Attorney General remarked was likely to increase.

Up to now, 11 child victims have been identified through Operation Joint Hammer.

Attorney General Mukasey said, “It should come as news to no one that crimes against children have been an area of special focus for the Department of Justice, and an area of great success.”
