Federer to play in Paris

Paris - Roger Federer confirmed on Monday that he will play in this week's Paris Masters, a day after winning his hometown title in Basle for the third straight year.

Jankovic finishes the year top of WTA list

Hamburg - High-flying Serb Jelena Jankovic tops the women's tennis rankings issued on Monday by the WTA and is already assured of staying there until next year.

Jankovic has 4,555 points and, according to a WTA statement on Saturday, has clinched the prestigious year-ending number one position for the first time in her career as well.

Russian Dinara Safina ranks second with 3,752 points and Serena Williams of the United States is third on 3,716 points in an unchanged top 10.

Nadal leads in unchanged ATP top 10

Rafael Nadal reigns supreme in men's tennisHamburg - Rafael Nadal of Spain led the way in the men's tennis rankings, with the latest list published on Monday by the ATP seeing an unchanged top 10.

Nadal, who has already clinched the prestigious year-ending top spot for the first time in his career, has 7,100 points.

Former number one Roger Federer, who won a third straight home title at the Swiss Indoors in Basle on Sunday, is second with 5,805 points, and third-ranked Serb Novak Djokovic has 4,575 points.

Bhupati, Peas reach third round of US Open doubles

India’s Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi, with their respective partners, reached the third round of the US Open doubles.

On Friday in New York, the seventh seeded Peas along with his Czech partner Lukas Dlouhy won against Eduardo Schwank óf Argentina and Italy's Potito Starace 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 in 72 minutes. On the other hand, Bhupati and Bahamian Mark Knowles too gave a tough fight to Yves Allegro and Horia Tecau of Romania 6-3, 6-3 in 66 minutes.

South African Rik de Voest and Australian  Ashley Fisher who overcame No. 12 seeds and Roland Garros winners Pablo Cuevas and Luis Horna 7-6 (3), 6-2, are the next to be faced by Peas and Dlouhy.
