Investigations into the case have led to the city police stumbling upon 37 foreign cars fraudulently imported into India.

However, the judges were irked by the fact that none of those cars had been seized so far. "Such a network (for import of cars) can be used by terrorists. In 1993 (Mumbai) blasts, existing smuggling network was used to smuggle in RDX," Justice Patel said. "Do you want the FBI to come and guide you in this case?"

Justice DH Waghela of the Gujarat high court has issued notices to Maya Kodnani and Jaydeep Patel. The court on Tuesday heard the applications moved by the SIT against the order of a lower court granting anticipatory bail to the leaders in the Naroda Patia and Naroda Gaam cases. The matter will come up for further hearing on March 2.

Kodnani, the minister of state for higher education and woman and child welfare, and VHP leader Patel had been granted anticipatory bail by the city sessions court on February 5. Kodnani had sought bail in the Naroda Patia and Naroda Gaam cases, while Patel had sought the same in the latter case.

SC seeks justification from Tamil Nadu Govt. on Madras HC violence

New Delhi, Feb 25: The Supreme Court has asked the Tamil Nadu Government to justify the entry of police into the Madras High Court premises on February 19. It has directed the State Government to assess the damage done to the lawyers'' cars and the high court building in the police-lawyers clash and announce compensation for the injured lawyers by Thursday.

The apex court also condemned the lawyers for going on strike and creating a huge hue and cry inside courtrooms.

However, it has asked the government to respond to it by Thursday.

The violent clash between the police and the advocates in the Madras High Court on February 19 left over 50 lawyers, a judge and several policemen injured.
