94 percent of human genes generate multiple forms of their protein products

London, Nov 3 : Almost all human genes, about 94 percent, generate more than one form of their protein products by skipping or including certain sequences from the messenger RNA, say MIT scientists.

The phenomenon, called alternative splicing, is much more prevalent and varies more between tissues than was previously believed.

Ten years ago, the scientists thought that the phenomenon was limited to only a few genes, but the figure reached to 50-plus percent more recently.

Irish Lisbon Treaty opponent to form Europe-wide party

IrelandDublin - The man who spearheaded Irish opposition to the European Union's Lisbon Treaty said Monday that he hoped to turn his organization into a European political party.

Declan Ganley told Irish broadcaster RTE his aim was to run candidates in many EU states in the June 2009 European elections.

He said the move would provide an opportunity across the EU to provide a proxy referendum on the treaty designed to streamline the running of the 27-nation bloc.

London, Nov 3 :More than a hundred gatecrashers wreaked havoc in a Brit family home after the details of a teenager''s house party were posted on Facebook.

The party was hosted by 16-year-old Joanna Zell while her parents were off to Austria.

The gatecrashers smashed windows, ruined carpets, took drugs, and indulged in a messy egg fight at the house in Bickley, near Bromley.

"It got out of control,” the Telegraph quoted a partygoer, as saying.

"People were having sex in bedrooms, smoking cannabis and wrecking the front garden,” the partygoer added.

Joanna was forced to call police and disperse the crowd.

Prince Philips succumbs to call of nature at royal shooting party

Prince PhilipsLondon, Nov 3 : Prince Philip, who has a long history of provoking embarrassing moments, found himself in another jiffy after getting caught short on a shooting party.

The 87-year-old royal was leading the party at Sandringham, the Queen’s Norfolk estate, when he undid his trousers and let nature take its course in full public view.

“It was an amazing sight. Those dark glasses didn’t fool anyone and he was caught red-handed with his finger on the trigger,” the Daily Star quoted a passer-by as saying.

At the last moment, bosses of the show panicked over whether she was actually up to the job.

Desperate organisers had drafted in Jesse Metcalfe to give her some back up for the all-star show.
