Sensex regains 10,000-points mark

Bombay Stock ExchangeMumbai, Nov 3: The Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex on Monday regained 10,000-points mark and surged by 544 points in early trade on heavy buying by funds as well as retailers.

The regain of 10,000-points mark was sparked by Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) announcement of fresh set of measures to infuse more liquidity into the financial system.

The 30-share Sensex, which gained almost 1,200 points in the past three sessions, shot up by another 544 points at 10,332.06 on renewed buying in the stocks of banking, capital goods, metals and oil and gas sectors.

The 40-year-old, who quit his A-levels aged 16 to attend a drama school, had been discouraged by his mum, Carol, who told the Brit that ‘qualifications on bits of paper’ would not make him an actor.

The 61-year-old Carol revealed that she respected and believed in her son’s capabilities, yet she couldn’t stop herself from worrying when he announced his acceptance into the National Youth Theatre .

Ferrari based ‘flying car’ to take to the skies in 2 years

London, Nov 3: A car, based on Ferrari, could be flying its passengers to their desired location, within just two years time.

According to a report in the Telegraph, known as the ‘Autovolantor’, the car is based on a 200,000 pounds Ferrari 599 GTB, and is being developed by “Moller International”.

It will have the ability to take off vertically and hover, thanks to eight powerful thrusters which direct air down for take off. Vents then tilt so the car can fly forward.

The car is expected to be able to do 100mph on the ground and 150mph in the air. The calculated airborne range is 75 miles and ground range is 150 miles.

“Pak Taliban not under Qaeda influence”

Lahore, Nov 3: The Pakistan unit of the Taliban, the Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) has reportedly said that none of its affiliate organisations was under the influence of Al Qaeda, and that it was ready to hold peace talks with the Pakistan government.

Neither the TTP nor any of its affiliate organisations is under the influence of Al Qaeda, the Daily Times quoted TTP spokesman Maulvi Omar as saying.

“The TTP had nothing to do with Al Qaeda,” he reiterated.

The TTP was sincere in peace talks with the government, he said and added that any effort to resolve the disputes in the Tribal Areas by force would prove to be fruitless.

Genetically modified soya bean can cut heart attack risk

Heart AttackLondon, November 3: A genetically modified soya bean, which can help to prevent heart attacks, has passed the first phase of trials in the United States.

Researchers at the University of South Dakota say that the promising results of the experiments have cleared the way for its use in foods such as spreads, yoghurts, cereal bars, and salad dressings.

The researchers said that their study had shown that oil from the GM soya could raise blood concentrations of long-chain omega3 acids, which are found chiefly in oily fish such as salmon, trout and fresh tuna.
