Lima  - Five people suffocated to death after a tear gas grenade was detonated early Thursday morning at a disco in the southern Peruvian city of Juliaca, near the border with Bolivia.

The grenade went off in the middle of the disco, called Boom, and in the panic that followed, five people asphyxiated while at least 10 others were injured, RPP radio reported. The victims were between the ages of 17 and 20.

As police were still investigating, the motive and people responsible for the explosion were unknown. (dpa)
