Filmmaker BR Chopra passes away at 95
In what can be called a sad day in Bollywood, legendary filmmaker BR Chopra, who was suffering from prolonged illness, breathed his last early Wednesday morning at his Juhu residence, at the age of 95.
An acclaimed Bollywood personality, and a winner of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Chopra had made many blockbuster films like 'Naya Daur', 'Gumrah', 'Humraaz', 'Dhundh', 'Insaaf ka Tarazoo' and 'Nikah'.
Chopra began his film career under the banner of BR films in 1955. Survived by his son, filmmaker Ravi Chopra, and two daughters Shashi and Neena, the producer-director's legacy will be carried forward by this banner.
When the veteran filmmaker, who was awarded the Filmfare's prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003, shifted from films to television, his epic 'Mahabharat' turned out to be one of the most successful TV serials in the history of Indian television.
The younger brother of BR Chopra, Yash Chopra, formed his own company - YashRaj films - after splitting with his brother. Of late, BR Chopra had taken a backseat in filmmaking, handing over the baton to his son, Ravi Chopra, who went on to make films like 'Baaghbaan', 'Baabul' and 'Bhootnath'.
The passing away of BR Chopra marks the end of an era, but the filmmaker will always be known for his remarkable work in the field of cinema, involving every aspect of the entertainment industry - from films to television soaps.
