Farm growth Declines

Indian-FarmingAfter facing downturn in majority of sectors, Indian farming and allied sectors have also seen decline, as per the Economic Survey of 2009-10.

The survey, further advised the government to take precautionary measures as far as inflation is concerned, in the parliament. The survey raised few points with regards to the minus 0.2 per cent growth rate in 09-10 over 08-09 in agriculture and allied sectors, and food management policies which till date has led to a sustainable high food inflation.

The survey also observed the inclining food prices, entailed by the decline in food production, cropping up food security issues, the need for improvement in food production and its productivity on the table of national strategy.

According to the survey, a major reason for the inflation could be the shortfall in supply of some of the essential commodities due to the much delayed monsoon of sub-normal south-west. As a result of a cut back in the rainfall by
23% in this monsoon season, the first estimates of the 2009-10 the kharif production hit by the scanty rainfall, declined by 18.51 million tons over 2008-09.
