Fake Twitter accounts boosting popularity of celebrities

Fake-TwitterWashington, Nov 25 : Celebrities around the world have been reportedly hiring professionals for generating fake Twitter accounts to "follow" their accounts on the social network to boost their popularity.

Jim Vidmar admitted to have been managing 10,000 robots for around 50 clients, who pay him to make them appear more popular and influential, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Rapper Dave Murrell hired Vidmar, who bought 1,000 fake Twitter accounts for 58 dollars from an online vendor in Pakistan, to manage Murrell's popularity online.

Vidmar's fake accounts also rebroadcast Murrell's tweets, amplifying his Twitter voice, the report added.

Vidmar has been buying fake accounts and unleashing them on Twitter for the past six years. (ANI)
