Ekta's off-air exclusive

Ekta's off-air exclusiveIt seems that Ekta Kapoor is all set to get back into the groove. In a new development, three of Balaji Telefilms shows are going off-air. It might sound that this is again a major setback for her production house. However, there is a twist in the tale. Ekta, with her shows going off-air, will be getting back her exclusivity on Star.

It all started with Balaji's dominance on prime-time with the hugely successful K shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, Kasautii Zindagi Kay and several others. However, these three major shows were scrapped by the channel, out of which Kyunki's untimely death lead to court case too. Still, Kyunki went off the air and gradually Balaji lost its exclusivity on Star.

Now, three more of her K shows named Kasturi, Karam Apna Apna and Kayamath are slated to go off-air. A well placed source in Balaji says, "Kyunki got into legalities as it ended before time. All shows except two will end on Star and Balaji will get their exclusivity back in return." The two shows which will survive are Tujh Sang Preet Lagaayi Sajna and Kis Des Mein Hai Mera Dil.

Elaborating on the exclusivity part, the source adds, "The termination of shows will allow us exclusivity. It was mutually decided in the August 18 contract that all except two shows will end on March 31."

But what about the legal case? "The case was only on one show. And cases in our country take years. However, Ekta is not going to talk to the press till a few more months," the source explains. Ranjib Mazumder (m_ranjib@dnaindia.net)
