Dunlop to close facility at Sahaganj

Dunlop to close facility at SahaganjDunlop factory at Sahaganj is closed for indefinite period on Sunday by the company management. The company has cited the non-cooperation and indiscipline of workers as a major reason for the factory closure. The decision would affect a large number of workers of the factory.

A spokesperson for the company said that it had held many rounds of dialogue with the workers but failed to satisfy their demands due to rigid attitude of some workers. The company has now decided not to pay any wages/salaries to the workers during the period of suspension of operation. Earlier, it had decided to pay Rs. 2000 per month to the workers and cited economic slowdown and liquidity problem as a major reason behind suspension of work.

Meanwhile, jobless workers criticized the move and threatened to start agitation. The Trinamul Congress union has decided to extend support to the workers and said, "The CITU and the INTUC were working for the management and had no concern for suffering of the workers."
