DSG plans to expand megastores

DSG-InternationalDSG International, an electrical retailer, is all set to make a huge expansion of its Megastore and 2-in-1 stores. 2-in-1 stores are the combination of its Currys and PC World store. DSG announced today that it will open more revamped stores over the coming year as part of its continued turnaround strategy.

DSG, the largest electrical retailer in the word, said today that it will refurbish 100 existing UK stores and open 33 new Megastores by Christmas this year. DSG said that it had identified 70 suitable locations for new megastores massive shops. DSG said that it is also planning to open 60 2-in-1 stores this year.

DSG started its turnaround plan centered on a £200 million cost savings program two years ago. The company started a portfolio review on May 2008. The company has reformatted 139 UK stores since announcing the portfolio review. DSG improved the standards of customer service through the training of 20000 Currys and PC World staff. The company recorded a 20% average growth at the new formats of stores.

"The new store formats are popular with customers, particularly the megastores. The next 12 months will be another busy period," said John Browett, chief executive of DSG.

DSG also unveiled its plans to sell off its underperforming businesses. The company has closed 152 stores across Europe since May 2008.
